The ongoing transformation of Nakivubo Stadium into a state-of-the-art sports facility has garnered commendation from Uganda’s First Lady and Minister for Education and Sports, Janet Kataaha Museveni. Mrs. Museveni extended her congratulations to businessman Hamis Kiggundu for spearheading the ambitious redevelopment project.

In her remarks, Mrs. Museveni emphasized the significance of such initiatives in nation-building, highlighting the positive impact of youth-led projects on Uganda’s development trajectory. She lauded Kiggundu for his dedication to elevating Uganda’s sports infrastructure, citing Nakivubo Stadium’s modernization as a testament to the potential of young entrepreneurs in shaping the country’s future.

The Nakivubo Stadium redevelopment, estimated at a cost of shs54 billion, encompasses significant upgrades, including a revamped pitch, two suspended floors, a two-level pavilion, netball grounds, and a modern roofing system. The facility, designed to accommodate 35,000 spectators, aims to serve as a multi-sport venue, accommodating events ranging from football to athletics, netball, and bodybuilding.

Of notable mention is Uganda’s successful bid to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) alongside Kenya and Tanzania, with Nakivubo Stadium slated as one of the tournament venues. The stadium’s modernization aligns with Uganda’s ambitions to host international sporting events and showcase its prowess in sports infrastructure development.

Despite facing criticism and skepticism, Hamis Kiggundu remains undeterred in his commitment to the Nakivubo Stadium project. Addressing detractors, Kiggundu emphasized the importance of rational discourse and urged Ugandans to embrace positivity and support initiatives aimed at national progress. He reaffirmed his dedication to seeing the shs54 billion venture through to completion, emphasizing the transformative impact it will have on Uganda’s sports landscape.

As construction progresses, the Nakivubo Stadium redevelopment stands as a symbol of Uganda’s resilience and determination to invest in its sporting future. With the support of government officials and the visionary leadership of entrepreneurs like Hamis Kiggundu, the project heralds a new era of sports excellence and infrastructure development in Uganda.
