Kampala, Uganda – April 17, 2026December 5 has been designated as Nyanzi Martin Luther Day, an annual observance aimed at celebrating youth entrepreneurship, creativity, and innovation, in honour of young media entrepreneur and youth advocate Nyanzi Martin Luther.
Born on December 5, 2009, Nyanzi is a 16-year-old student at Kisozi High School who has already made notable strides in Uganda’s media and digital space.
He is the founder of Apex Media Services, a multimedia enterprise that operates platforms including Block FM 103.2.
Also known in entertainment circles as Deejay Blockboy, he has created avenues for content creation, music promotion, and advertising while continuing with his studies.
Through his initiative, Apex Digital Skills, Nyanzi has extended his impact beyond media by equipping young people with practical knowledge in digital literacy and entrepreneurship.
The program has empowered many youths with skills relevant to today’s evolving digital economy, particularly in the creative and media industries.
The newly established observance is intended to highlight themes of innovation, resilience, and self-driven success among young people.
It aims to inspire Uganda’s youth to embrace entrepreneurship and harness digital tools to create opportunities and transform their communities.
The day will be marked annually on December 5, aligning with Nyanzi’s birthday, with the first official observance scheduled for December 5, 2026. Activities will primarily take place in Kampala and surrounding areas, including events at Apex Media premises, youth centres, and community spaces, while radio and digital platforms will extend participation nationwide.
Planned activities include special radio and television features showcasing stories of young innovators, entrepreneurship workshops, and digital skills training sessions organised through Apex Digital Skills.
Community dialogues focusing on youth empowerment and the growth of the media sector are also expected to form part of the celebrations.
The observance comes at a time when Uganda continues to grapple with youth unemployment, positioning the day as a platform to promote practical solutions through skills development and innovation.
Supporters say it offers a meaningful opportunity to recognise grassroots success stories and encourage more young people to turn their ideas into viable ventures.
Members of the public are encouraged to participate by attending events, engaging in community discussions, or simply recognising and supporting youth-led initiatives.
Individuals can also add the day to their personal calendars as an annual reminder of the role young people play in shaping the country’s future.
Nyanzi Martin Luther Day stands as a growing symbol of what youth determination and creativity can achieve, reinforcing the message that age is no barrier to impact in Uganda’s media and entrepreneurial landscape.
