1 min read

MTN Uganda has become the first country in East Africa to have a feel of 5G Network and the third MTN market to have the same after South Africa and Nigeria last year after showcasing its 5G technology prowess today at its Nyonyi Gardens offices in Kololo.

This comes after an earlier announcement by the telco to commercially roll out 5G in before 2020 ends.

Earlier in 2018, MTN announced at its headquarters in South Africa, that they have begun the first 5G technology applications trial in Africa, in collaboration with network equipment provider, Ericsson.

The completion of MTN’s first 5G technology and application trials in South Africa saw the telco achieve a throughput of over 20Gbps with less than five minutes latency in the 5G trial.

The telecom giant showcased several demonstrations of how fast its future 5G technology network will be in comparison to its existing 4G network.

It took Orange Uganda to roll out the first successful 4G- LTE network in Kampala around one year after 4G was global. Also, building a 5G network cannot be justified as of now, so we are like to see trials this year and in 2021.
