Two tourists from Germany yesterday survived drowning after a tour truck they were riding in veered off the road and plunged into River Ishaha.

According to Police, the tourists were on their way to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park when their vehicle, a Double Cabin pickup truck, fell into the river.

Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate says the accident happened at around 2:30pm yesterday afternoon.

“Christiano Gaido, a German national and a tourist in Uganda was driving together with his wife in a Toyota Double cabin number UBE 809S,” Maate said.

“They lost control and overturned at the bridge into River Ishasha.”

The two, Maate says, were saved by locals who rushed to the scene.

They were rushed to Bwindi Hospital and treated for minor injuries before being discharged.

Maate says the vehicle was removed from the river and towed to Kihihi Police Station
