Last week, LycaMobile kicked off its long awaited operations in Uganda at a function which was graced by Presidential Museveni’s representative. At this function, Business Detect learnt that Lycamobile was coming to compete with the existing mobile telephone companies in Uganda but in my view, this is not true.
I know from my experience as a long time Lycamobile customer that, they are coming to Uganda to create their own market. The company is coming to provide a service which no one provides at the moment and they will enjoy a free market of providing affordable international calls, text and affordable internet data.
Lycamobile is the largest global provider of low cost international mobile calls currently. It is an MVNO that operates on T-Mobile’s network.
They offer phone calls plans that are geared towards those that have a need for international calling and texting. Currently, they are present in; Australia, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Macedonia, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Tunisia, Ukraine, South Africa, the UK, the USA, Russia and now Uganda.
They are Unique providers and they mainly give customers access to a network of a high quality speed and affordable, Ugandans should embrace it.
In Europe, Lycamobile plays a big role of connecting immigrants and international students to their families by providing affordable network for calls and internet.
In Uganda and Africa, they can target to connect Ugandans with their relatives in diaspora, they can as well connect exparts in Uganda to their loved ones and friends, but also to the business community of Uganda who depend on telephone to transact business, mostly those who import goods from China, Turkey, Dubai and India.
Also Uganda has a big number of exparts from China and India but none of the available telecom companies has been providing this kind of service to them. And even the expensive service which they provide, is of poor quality and not good to bank on.
Lycamobile’s incredible success is a testament to it’s compelling value proposition, dedication to customer service and as the largest global provider of low-cost international calls, it is applauded for connecting so many people throughout the country to their loved ones across the globe.
I started using Lycamobile in 2013, I used the network in Sweden, Germany and Ireland and I can tell you that, it was a good choice for me because, I’m able to spend little on calls yet the network is very clear and strong.
Their street campaign marketing strategy and the powerful trade marketing with both major and low scale retailers, has contributed to Lycamobile’s success in Europe and I think this same strategy can well be used to penetrate the African telecom market and Africans will undoubtedly enjoy this low cost service but effective.
